How is everyone? If anyone reads this, please post how you are doing. I haven't talked to anyone in awhile.

Carnegie Mellon is a fantastic place. I came here for research, and research is what I'm doing. I'm involved in 2 research projects at the moment.

1. Bioimage Informatics Lab. Before I can start working here, I have to read about wavelets. First I have to review Fourier transformations, Heisenberg's Indeterminancy Principle (and a few more theories that are basic evolutions of Fourier's trans.) The lab's goal is to be able to place cells in a machine and have the machine give an output of specific protiens in the cell. I'm not going to be in the bio part of it, more the math/physics section.

2. Modsnakes.
Here's the main site:

Here's a tidbit about the professor I'm helping:

Beyond that, I'm majoring in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a planned double major in either Applied Math or Applied Physics (still have to decide). The ECE course is proving to be tough, with average exam scores of 65 and average homework grades of 75. Just gotta buckle down and study, nothing impossible.

That's it for now. In conclusion, here's a poem - and please drop me a line if you have some time.

    And frogs in the pools singing at night,
    And wild plum trees in tremulous white;

    Robins will wear their feathery fire,
    Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

    And not one will know of the war, not one
    Will care at last when it is done.

    No one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
    If mankind perished utterly;

    And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
    Would scarcely know that we were gone.

Do you think Democracy is truly the best political system?

Please post your thoughts.

My contention:
Democracy will inevitably end in disaster because those who vote are not always equipped with the education to select the best rulers.

These sleepless nights lead me to thought-filled hours of contemplation. I wonder if I'm following the right track in my life. Am I, indeed, doing what I "love?" Am I following my passion? I find my interests flowing further than science and math, spilling over to language, philosophy and art. I find myself contemplating double and triple majors to learn as much as I can. My greatest fear is looking back in 4 years and regretting not utilizing all of my resources. I do not want to have remorse after spending $160,000 on my education. Ah well - don't worry, be happy. :)

I think I'll wait till I'm campus before I make any solid decisions about my major. Everyone always says it's good to have a goal in mind, but it's easier said than done.
